It's designed for vehicles fitted with an ecu-controlled variable voltage alternator. The battery charger is designed to work with an operating range of 9-32v and gives the option for charging from either 12v or 24v vehicle systems. The bcdc1220-ign has a lower voltage setting and will continue to operate with a low input voltage from the alternator.
